How I Found My Calling

Welcome to my blog!

I’m a family physician in Northern Idaho and God has taken me on an incredible journey into what I call medical ministry. I’ll explain how I went from living the good life in Southern California to living in a garage in Northern Idaho and why it was the best decision I’ve ever made. My blog will focus on the following four areas:

1. The connections between medicine and ministry. In the ancient world, priests were acting doctors. If you were sick, you found the religious person in your community. In modern society we have separated the two. However, at a deep visceral level, we understand that our physical and spiritual needs are intertwined. I’m exploring how we can meet both those needs.

2. The transformational power of sacrifice. Love at it’s highest aspiration is sacrificial. It’s the love of the mother for her child. It’s the willingness of a husband to take a bullet for his wife. It’s the love we when we understand that God sent his Son for us. I’ll look into how sacrificial love has transformed not just patient’s lives but my own life too.

3. How to achieve optimal health. I spend significant time with patients (30 minutes per visit). I do this to delve deep into their lives. I’ve seen patterns in how patients have overcome smoking, drugs, obesity and other addictions. I’d like to share these lessons with you.

4. What optimal health tells us about who God is. As a seventh-day Adventist Christian, I want to know who God is and I’ve been fascinated by what the journey into health tells us about God.
